Read More Why Ohio companies are investing in hydrogen cars despite infrastructure issues
Three Ohio companies are investing in hydrogen fuel cell passenger vehicles even as the U.S. market for electric vehicles continues to grow. Each has an innovative approach to the chicken-and-egg problem of having fuel available when and where drivers need it. The Ohio companies’ focus on fuel cell passenger vehicles is unique nationwide, especially for […]
Read More How do we make hydrogen fuel cells a viable reality? Electrochemistry might hold the answer
This past summer, a commercial passenger ferry powered by a hydrogen fuel cell set sail in the San Francisco Bay. The nation’s first fuel cell-powered ferry, the ship heralds the reality of zero-emission options for our nation’s vast and varied transportation sector. Fuel cells are the technology by which we convert hydrogen to useful, emission-free […]
Read More California Approves $1.4 Billion Investment in Hydrogen Refueling Stations and EV Charging Infrastructure
The California Energy Commission (CEC) today approved a $1.4 billion investment plan that accelerates progress on the state’s electric vehicle (EV) charging and hydrogen refueling goals. These investments will help deploy infrastructure for light, medium, and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles (ZEV) across California, expanding the most extensive charging and hydrogen refueling network in the country. The […]
Read More EERE Investment Snapshot Showcases Impressive Returns on Federal Investment in Energy Innovation
The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) has been driving groundbreaking advances in energy innovation for over four decades. The data and case studies in the 2024 EERE Investment Snapshot describe EERE’s recent successes in delivering the benefits of energy innovations to communities, companies, and industries across the country. https://www.energy.gov/eere/2024-eere-investment-snapshot
Read More This is the new hydrogen fuel cell: extremely compact and boasting 157kW of power
This is the first “intelligent” hydrogen fuel cell: an advance in mobility. A lightweight hydrogen fuel cell of 157kW production power has been developed by Intelligent Energy that can generate power for a clean power technology company. The brand defined it in its presentation as a “commercially-viable, turnkey solution”, something we believe is promising for the sector.
The power density of that fuel-cell system is also innovating, and it is striking that it can still generate 157kW in a lightweight hydrogen fuel cell product. It’s what we see as a proposal to outperform EVs, with even better fuel, that needs, yes, a more ambitious and accessible network of hydrogen filling stations
Read More Bill Gates hooked on this hydrogen fuel and solid carbon startup
Bill Gates recently visited a climate tech startup in the Seattle area called Modern Hydrogen, which is focused on the production of hydrogen fuel and solid carbon.
The company developed a device that breaks down natural gas molecules to produce hydrogen fuel and solid carbon. Those products each have applications for lowering greenhouse gas emissions. H2 can be used as a carbon emission-free fuel, and solid carbon has a number of different industrial applications, including the aforementioned asphalt.
